How long does it take to move to Hong Kong?
Working in Hong Kong, opportunities for expats. One conceivable way to start is to be seconded by a German company (as a so-called expat). Since expat jobs are usually advertised internally, you have to apply directly to the company in question.
For those interested, the Chamber of Industry & Commerce (AHK Greater China) is a first point of contact. Here you will find a list of German companies based in Hong Kong (currently around 400 members). For a fee, it is also possible to place a job advertisement directly with the Chamber of Commerce, which is then sent to the member companies.
Those who do not have a comfortable expatriate contract must bear in mind, however, that working life in Hong Kong is very demanding and employees are expected to work very hard. Overtime is the order of the day in Hong Kong and 50-60 hour weeks are the norm. By the way, with an employment contract with a local company, you only get about 12 days of holiday per year. With a permanent job offer, it is no problem to get a residence permit for Hong Kong. The so-called Hong Kong ID card (similar to the green card for the USA) must be applied for at the Department of Immigration. The visa must be applied for before entering the country.
Choosing the right removal company to safely store and professionally transport your belongings is essential. We have been handling removals to and from Hong Kong professionally and damage-free for our clients for 20 years. Quality and service at a fair price. The table below gives you an approximate overview of the term you can expect when moving to Hong Kong:

Language skills: Due to the English colonial history, English is still widely spoken (about 46% of the inhabitants speak English). However, the language of the locals is Cantonese, a regional dialect. If you want to establish social contacts with the locals, you should definitely learn a little Cantonese.Mandarin, the official language in China, is also becoming increasingly important in Hong Kong, after all, more and more trade is being conducted with mainland China. Therefore, more and more young people are learning Mandarin instead of English as a second language. The prevalence of Mandarin as a second language is already higher than English (about 48% of the inhabitants speak Mandarin).
Most people who move to Hong Kong from Germany usually bring a large part of their possessions with them. However, to ensure that not only the transport, but the entire relocation goes off without complications, you should take care of the formalities as best you can beforehand. Alpha Service will advise you as your removal professional in an uncomplicated, personal and reliable manner.

Hong Kong
Hong Kong is a metropolis and special administrative region on the southern coast of the People's Republic of China in the Pearl River estuary. With over seven million inhabitants on 1106 square kilometres and a significant economic and financial sector, Hong Kong is one of the world's cities. 95 per cent of Hong Kong's inhabitants are of Chinese descent with a predominantly Cantonese mother tongue. Hong Kong was occupied by the United Kingdom during the First Opium War in 1841 and declared a British Crown Colony by the Treaty of Nanking in 1843. For many Chinese, the British colony was a refuge from the Chinese Civil War of 1927 to 1949. In 1997, sovereignty was handed over to the People's Republic of China. Since then, Hong Kong has been a Chinese Special Administrative Region while maintaining a free market economy and a high degree of internal autonomy. The most densely populated areas are the Kowloon Peninsula and the north of Hong Kong Island, separated by the narrow strait Victoria Harbour.
The New Territories include the original hinterland north of Kowloon, which makes up the largest area of Hong Kong, and most of Hong Kong's 263 islands. Hong Kong's largest island is Lantau Island, which is also home to Hong Kong International Airport, on Chek Lap Kok Island. Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region and is located at the mouth of the Pearl River into the South China Sea. The territory of Hong Kong covers a very irregularly shaped peninsula and 263 islands, the most important of which are Lantau Island (147.2 km²), Hong Kong Island (78.6 km²), Chek Lap Kok (14.6 km²), Lamma Island (13.9 km²), Tsing Yi (10.7 km²), Cheung Chau (2.4 km²) and Peng Chau (1.2 km²). The territory is divided into Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories and the Outlying Islands. Of the 1104 km² land area, only about 25 % is built-up. The habitable territory of Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated in the world, after Monaco with around 16,000 inhabitants per km², with the population density of the whole territory being around 6,900 inhabitants per km². Hong Kong has eleven universities and two academy institutes that also offer undergraduate degree programmes. However, due to the high demand for higher education, there are now a large number of other institutions offering tertiary courses. The oldest university is the University of Hong Kong, which was founded in 1910.
Autonomy status. Under the Sino-British Joint Declaration on Hong Kong, and within the framework of the One Country, Two Systems principle developed by Deng Xiaoping, Hong Kong's democratic market economy system will remain alongside the authoritarian socialist system of the People's Republic of China for at least 50 years, ensuring Hong Kong's role as one of Asia's financial centres. This autonomy allows Hong Kong to have its own laws, tariffs as well as its own currency. The SAR continues to be associated as a separate member with GATT, WTO, APEC, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Financial Stability Board (FSB), as well as with ESCAP.
